Follow the steps carefully and make your own leather desk accessories

You can begin by tearing the covers from an old phone book, if you have any. Slip a finger between pages so you have a section about ¼-inch thick. Then open the phone book and place your thumbs on either side of the crease in the opening. You can now rip the phone book apart at the spine, which will give you a ¼-inch thickness of pages.

The second step is to slide your pages into your paper guillotine so that the blade hits them about 3 inches from one end. You should then push the blade down quickly and smoothly. Slice a 3-inch section from the rest. Remember, you should use sliding paper guillotines to make leather accessories, because the blade has to pivot up and down.

You may then varnish a piece of copper tubing and let it dry. This process will help to preserves the shine of the leather. Start at the spine side of your 3-inch section of phone book pages and roll them tightly into a cylinder. Ensure that the edges of the pages stick out slightly around the cylinder.

The final step is to push the end of your paper cylinder into your varnished copper tube in a way such that 2” of the paper sticks up from the tube. Ideally, the edges of the paper should flare out slightly; then, make the cylinder stand upright.

Your leather desk accessory is now ready for use. You will feel proud of your craft skills as you slip business cards, wallet-sized photos, reminder notes and other similar stuff between the pages.
